Work-cation?

Dear Reader,
I’m back at my desk at 9am on a Monday morning wondering where my weekend went, yesterday I penciled in doing ‘nothing’ and found myself completely out of sorts at the idea. A sure sign that my work life balance is in need of a reset, or maybe it’s just a stark contrast to the busy month that passed.
I spent most of March on the road, stopping at ECCC, MegaCon Orlando and C2E2 with a surprise few days at Yosemite just after my birthday. I kicked off this year’s con circuit with ECCC in Seattle, a predictably wet but delightful weekend. The PNW love is big and always full of delightful surprises, this year was topped by the request to sign a Roku remote and a delivery of homemade scones!

After a quick pitstop in LA I continued onto MegaCon which always feels like a vacation— the theme park magic and mega resorts trick you into thinking you aren’t at work. This year I took advantage of that illusion and joined some friends for the Mega Con Universal Studios night, where they close the parks early granting access only to those who have ‘MegaCon Universal Studios’ park tickets. A crazy fun experience, there is almost no wait on rides and the dining halls are empty! I found myself face to face with an old nemesis at the end of the night, I thought after 10 years I would have worked up enough bravery to take on the Hulk coaster, but upon reaching the entrance I realised that Hulk level bravery is to be acquired.
Keeping that vacation illusion alive I spent Monday bounding around Disney World (taking the most perfect ride photo to date), before flying to Chicago for C2E2 early Tuesday.

C2E2 was predictably a fantastic weekend, the love the city brings to the show is unmatched, between this, getting to design the official zine cover and a surprise visit from my family it was a weekend to remember! Mum and Dad later joined me for a trip to Yosemite and a quick tour of LA before flying home.
I’m still coming down from the high of the last month, good byes get harder but the appreciation for the time together grows stronger. Something you don’t see coming as you get older, every moment is precious, the good and the bad.
I have managed to squeeze a little work in the last 4 weeks, I have a lot to catch up now so I better get back to it! Keep on scrolling of the illustrations!
C2E2 Zine
This year I was invited to design the cover for the limited edition 2026 C2E2 zine, featuring Image Comics Radiant Black. The zine celebrates not only the city of Chicago but creators big and small through a yearly theme— this years was diner.
When I hear the word diner I’m immediately transported to that 50’s / 60’s aesthetic, the cute roller skates, hot pants and a line dresses accompanied by jukeboxes, donuts and milkshakes. I love illustrating the Radiants in that icons 60’s Saul bass style, so instead of drawing on the stereotypical diner aesthetic I took that 60’s shape language and style and focused the narrative of this piece around the early character development and story lines. Bringing forth that pesky energy and banter that I love much!
If you missed out on attending the show, a few copies will be available from the Black Market Narrative store later this month!
Thank You G1988
Some of you may have seen already, earlier this month Gallery 1988 announced that after 20 years in business April would be their final month. A huge blow to the art community, G1988 gave so many of us our first start in the gallery world, a start I will be forever thankful for.
It’s a sad reflection of the time we are in, G1988 was one of the original pop culture art galleries. I admired their fun shows and incredible artists from Australia, dreaming that one day it would be a community I too could be apart of. It was a short-lived dream, and not quite the picture perfect version I had hoped for, but I was lucky enough to participate in 2 in person shows with them as well as a number of online group shows my favourite being ‘Honey I Shrunk the Art Show’.
Their liquidation sale is on until April 30, with a portion of sales benefiting the National Young Arts Foundation. You can find a number of my pieces at 70% off!
Roku City
I’ve been cursing around Roku City with the Li-Mu-Emu the last couple of weeks. Did any one spot him?!
